Think you know everything about social media?
Think again. From privacy concerns to copyright laws, and from ethics to branding, there’s a lot your BFF never taught you about social media. This new course, presented by the School of Journalism & Media Studies at San Diego State University, will help you learn how to make your professional digital footprint bigger and better across a number of social media platforms. The course also will help you learn how to evaluate these technologies for credibility, ethical values and legal concerns.
From Facebook to Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and many new apps, we will explore the impact and effectiveness of different networks on cultures near and far. What should your social media presence say about you? How can you determine who is telling the truth on your social media feed and who isn’t? Who should you follow, like, tweet, text or block?
This course will cover media literacy skills vital for 21st century communication. We’ll show you the most effective way to create and consume content, participate in social networks, and collaborate in virtual communities. We encourage students of all backgrounds and interests to join us in this exciting new exploration of today’s social-media culture.
